It’s time to spread some awareness. Over on the official forums. StevenI has made a post regarding info on how Mm picks work on copyright levels.

Quote by StevenI:

LittleBigPlanet has some amazing levels and whilst we would love to be able to feature all of them, occasionally we’ll come across a great level which we unfortunately cannot feature or highlight in the Mm Picks or otherwise.

As a general rule, we have decided not to highlight any levels based on established video game characters and franchises that are not owned by Sony Computer Entertainment, or related to our DLC partners

This hasn’t always been the case and if you dig back far enough into the archive of the Mm Picks, you will be able to find levels that do not adhere to this rule. However since then, we have had casual requests from one or two copyright holders, who are happy to turn a blind eye to people making levels, provided that we try not to feature them personally.

Similarly there are a few exceptions to the rule, the most obvious being characters or content from any licensed add-on packs that we have released for LittleBigPlanet.

I know this doesn’t sound like wonderful news but we thought it was about time that we set the record straight.

We know that a lot of creators have a huge desire to be featured in the Mm Picks and will continue to pursue that ultimate goal.

However it’s worth remembering that no matter how much we love the level (and believe me, there’s some levels that are completely astounding to us), your level isn’t likely to be Mm Picked, if you use a video game, movie or comic book character or franchise that isn’t Sackboy, LittleBigPlanet or your own personal creation.

Besides which, I personally believe that Sackboy is the only hero that LittleBigPlanet will ever need!

So there you have it. If you’ve ever wondered why some great levels based on other games haven’t been Mm picked. It’s because Mm can’t pick it or potentially they can get into trouble.

Well not saying this in a bad way but I know Ill never be half as good as some creators out their so this don’t effect me at all. I do agree on the sack boy being the only hero because if we keep making new characters whats sack boys purpose?

It’s great to have an official stance on this from Mm. I appreciate the transparency and it seems like a perfectly reasonable rule. It’s also nice to hear that content owners are aware of the copyright infringements and in most cases are willing to “turn a blind eye”.

Wait, does this mean that the winner of the little big network tribute contest wont get mm picked becuase it is is based off of a book or movie that is isn’t owned by mm, Sony or dlc titles?

In the LBN contest thread, I don’t see anything that states that, that was even a reward.  It reads “…for your chance to win a PSVITA, a CROWN and an exclusive LBN pin.” But, if they did plan on Mm picking the winner of the contest, they may have to talk to Mm to see if maybe the copyright owner may give the blind eye.

Gosh darn, I guess that means this beauty will never get picked. http://lbp.me/v/-ewh29

I’ve also wondered why no sonic levels have been MM picked, because if you look far into the dlc releases, there is a sonic unleaded dlc.

That would explain why none of my Rise Against or Lynyrd Skynyrd sequenced based levels were even considered.

And to think, I was going to make a Bioshock level. Freakin lame.
