Firstly, we want to thank all of you participants for your entries. Most of them were great efforts towards the contest goals, and for that we thank you. It’s great to see everyone’s personal take on using assets creatively, creating bosses, and blogging about your process. This was a very hotly debated contest amongst all of our judges, but we finally came to a consensus!
So, without further ado, we want to congratulate our two runner-ups!
This is a charming little level that is all about popping some BRAINS! It’s quite tricky, but nice to look at, featuring some very colorful characters. FootlessYeti also documented his design process extremely well in his blog, so give that a read!
Another Runner Up
This level just exudes charm in all that it does. It features a wonderful introduction with some breathtaking visuals that set the stage for the premise of the series. The story is finely woven as you work through some very clever level and character design. You’ll find yourself faced with some surprisingly tricky gameplay, so be warned! It, of course, caps with a boss fight that will not be soon forgotten!
And The Winner Is…..
This was a near-consensus winner from all of our judges, and it is not without good reason. This level series was so very polished from start to finish, and never deviated from the atmosphere the creator(s) surely set out to capture. The custom gameplay controls can take some getting used to, but they are introduced intuitively and progressively to build towards something very natural and very… retro! The series ends with a boss that aims to make this series a true epic, but it’s going to take a while to take him down! Set aside about an hour to tackle this beast of a series, and you won’t be disappointed.
