With the flurry of moderations resulting in levels with copyright infringement being snatched from Little Big Planet it’s refreshing to see that some company’s are cool with creators using their stuff in their Sackboy sandpits.
According to Media Molecule there are many companies that are cool with it. Speaking with IGN, MM’s Alex Evans said:
The other point is the number of IP owners who came up to us and said please whitelist us – we’ll never ever ask you to pull infringing stuff. I can’t say who that is, but those two things really shocked me, I think it shocked [the IP holders], who were like, hang on, my IP’s being represented and it’s being represented really well.
This news has been really refreshing and it’s great to see that there are some smart companies out there who are happy with their IP’s being well represented in the fun, fluffy world of Little Big Planet.
LittleBigLand extends hearty congratulations to the fluffy folk at Media Molecule, Supreme Creators of all that is both Little yet Big! Why? Media Molecule have won the Spike 2008 VGA award for Studio of the Year and if that wasn’t enough Little Big Planet has won the prestigious title of PS3 Game of the Year!
Alex Evans of Media Molecule has been quoted at the awards with this rather tasty morsel:
The LittleBigPlanet packs are going to be a lot more than what people are thinking they will be. They will be very substantial.
Intriguing…
EDIT: a video has just been released on the US Playstation Blog which chronicles the reactions of the MM representatives
Watching the news on Little Big Planets sticker import has been much like watching a tennis match, the ball goes from one side of the court to the other and then right back again.
As of now the only way to import images into Little Big Planet is to use a PlayStation Eye but it looks like that is about to change according the Media Molecules Flickr photo steam where an image was posted showing the new import feature. It was noted as “Work in Progress” but clearly shows that the feature is on its way, in fact it does so three times.
Alex Evans, co-founder of Media Molecule has said before that the only reason the import feature was not availble at launch was because of time constrains.
From an article over at PS3attitude – Alex Evans of Media Molecule has claimed that the decision to drop the ability to import images into Little Big Planet was due to time constraints.
The good news however is that the image import tool will be released by Christmas, meaning you will not have to rely on the EyeToy to create personalised stickers for your Little Big Planet levels
UPDATE:
Unfortunately this story has now been denied by Sam_Protagonist on the Official PlayStation Forum here – where he claims the only way to import images into Little Big Planet is still via the PS Eye. Very sorry if I got your hopes up
