I’ve spent yesterday at GamesCom and had the chance to pose some of the question you’ve send to me about LittleBigPlanet 2 to Spaff. You will find the paraphrased answers below, but first lets talk about some new things.
As you probably know by now Media Molecule has added a sequencer to LBP 2. Initially I wanted to tell you what it can do, but Alex Evans has beaten me to it. Watch him talk about the sequencer here
There is a new basic material called light matter, which behaves exactly like dark matter, but is of a beige colour and does not come with beveled corners. That’s of course nice, but you could also just stick an anti-gravity switch to everything you build and don’t to move.
Goo. Kotaku reported a while ago that there goo would feature in the game. That’s actually not true. Goo is not a new feature but rather you can tweak any material so that it sticks to something else and be emitted from the Creatinator.
Now to your questions.
Will we be able to take full resolution screenshots?
This is something Media Molecule wants to get in the game. It may not be full res in the end, but at least bigger than the current images.
Can we video capture our levels?
No, sadly not.
Can we change the look of the creatinator
This is also not true. It will be a helmet.
Will the layer glitch be an official tool?
No, it would, just like recording gameplay, take up to many resources. But they do hope it still works.
Is there a way to relate normal music notation to the music maker?
Yes, in a way. As you can see here if you know the piano keys you can easily re-make your favourite songs. Or compose your own songs.
How many sounds are there for the music maker
In one word. Plenty and you collect them throughout the story levels.
How animatable is Sackboy? Are you limited to movements you can make with the controller or can you use keyframes to create poses and then animate them?
Your are limited to what you can do with your controller.
Is water still a global property? Or can it be localised in a level?
It still a global property. There water droplets though which you can emit from emitters to create a more realistic rain. The good thing is this won’t take up as much thermo as it would in LBP 1 since the impact is calculated differently.
Will there be an inventory system?
No, but there will probably be someone in the community who makes one and shares it with everyone else.
Will I get a reward when someone uses my shared objects in their level?
Spaff wasn’t sure on this, but he said that there might be a pin for it.
Can we publish more levels than now?
There will be 20 slots for LBP 1 levels and another 20 for LBP 2 levels.
What if we create a level with someone else? Will they get credited too?
Probably not from the start, but at some point they want to have this in the game as well.
